The most important condition for citizenship is that you have a permanent residence permit. In addition, you must be able to document your Danish language skills, that you are self-supporting, that you have passed the citizenship test, and that you are not in debt to the public sector or have committed any crime.

If you are a refugee, you must have lived legally in Denmark for eight years. If you are married or cohabiting with a Danish citizen, you only need to have lived legally in Denmark for six years. Different conditions apply depending on the specific circumstances of your case.
